Gung Hay Fat Choy!

Happy New Year to the billion-plus people celebrating the Lunar New Year. Today we made paper lanterns in class, and found out that about half the kids are rats. As in they were born in the year of the Rat. The others are Oxes. ( I know it’s oxen.) Now my room is decorated with with paper lanterns AND crazy-looking heart creatures. Who said I can’t be cutesy?

In other news… the Conspiracy O’ the Month: American Dad, the new animated project created by those wacky people who brought you Family Guy, debuted after the Super Bowl. It’s almost the same show. Here’s what I think will happen:

When Family Guy comes back in May, the characters from American Dad will tear off their costumes and show that they were the Griffins the entire time, and the joke will be on us. Please let this happen. It needs to happen.

Gotta, Gotta, Gotta Love It!

What a nice drive home. After having dinner with the lovely and engaging Mrs. K, (Yes, we got suckered into McDonald’s cheap burger day; I will go back to ignoring McDonald’s until the next one.) my level of satiety was high. As I flipped through the radio stations, I absent-mindedly landed on the hard rock station, which was playing the Guns ‘n Roses’ Classic “Civil War”, to which my brain immediately began debating itself ‘Use Your Illusion I, or Use Your Illusion II?” Here’s your answer. As I got out the mail from the mailbox, the teaser at the top of the new Sports Illustrated read “The 25 Best Sports Bars in America.” Whoa. Funny, Bud’s Sports Place didn’t make the list! JOSH, KENNY, FRANK, everyone else, we NEED to go on a pilgrimage. I’ve made it to the Cubby Bear in Chicago (#7) on their list, and State Street Brats in Madison (#13)

But WAIT, it gets better!

Then as I got back to the apt., I opened the front cover and saw the best three-guard combination in the land; Dee, Deron, and Luther. Good article, makes me giddy. Go to Sports Illustrated and sign on to their extra’s page. You will enjoy both articles. The most interesting tidbits: Jack Ingram is a double E major (EE, not ee) and Dee Brown has a Deron Williams jersey that he wears off the court.

Go Illini. I am enjoying this ride beyond measure. :)

So Many Titles, so Little Time…

Possible titles for this post include:

Movin’ on Up (a Salary Lane)

I’m Doing it Because Ralph and Kennyare Doing it.

Yes, but do They Have a Marching Band?

Goodbye, One Night a Week. Hope the Other Six Don’t Miss You.

It’s been almost assuredly decided that I will be entering graduate school later this spring to begin my Masters of Education in Reading and Literacy. ( A type 10 endorsement for those of you playing at home.) I need letters of rec., and $$$. I’m on my way to Benedictine University to work on getting smarter. It’s a 22 month program that I would like to finish before kids arrive in our domicile. The best part is that it will be held in-district, so I don’t have to drive somewhere, and then drive home. I can just leave Arlington Heights in the cover of darkness, no matter what time of year it is. I’ll also be working in a cohort of my peers. So yay. I’m nervous and excited because it seems like a solid program, and I want to learn and apply, instead of hearing lots of theory. At the meeting, they pitched that would be constantly applying methods and research to our current classroom. Pricey, but it pays for itself in the long run.
